For
the 2nd year in a row and the 4th time in five seasons the St.
John Bosco boys varsity cross-country team captured the Roadrunner
Classic team title. It is the 2nd week in a row that the Braves
have come away with an invitational victory and the 3rd top finish
in three tries after Thursday's Serra League meet.
After a shaky first week the Braves seem as
if they are getting back on track as key returnees are rounding
into form and new faces adapt to life on the varsity level.
A new face led the way for his team today. Senior
Luis Perez finished in the runner-up spot with a time of 15:46
to set the tone for his team. Seniors Kevin Urak, Randy Skillens
and Matthew Pruter finished in 3rd, 8th and 14th to also help
their team. Sophomore Victor Bonilla finished as the team's fifth
man for the second race in a row to help solidify his team's
victory. Rounding out the varsity top 7 and setting course bests
for themselves were seniors Russell Gonzalez and Bradley Bonilla.
Perez, Urak and Bonilla all found their way
to the all time La Mirada park grade level list by way of their
fine performances.
The freshman-sophomore team also ended the day
with success as they finished in the runner-up team spot to a
very legitimate Cypress team. Leading the way and tying for the
7th man spot was sophomore Timothy Barreto who ran his second
tough race in 3 days to finish third overall in the race. Also
of note was sophomore Nick Rojes who once again lowered his personal
record by a huge margin to improve 5 minutes 14 seconds to place
as 2nd man in 17:32! Rounding out the top five for the frosh-soph
team were sophomores Justin Martinez and Raymond Cruces and freshman
David Boese.
Michael Alvarez posted the top Junior Varsity
finish for his squad placing 4th overall in 18:03.
