SERRA LEAGUE CLUSTER MEET::

On a day when many people in the Serra League may have thought that the "mighty" St. John Bosco boys would fall, they didn't.

Racing to capture their 11th straight league title the Braves varsity pulled another string of victories out of their magic hat and ended the day once again undefeated in league.

It was the 5th straight season that the Braves have reigned undefeated in dual meet competition as the last dual meet defeat came in September of 1999.

While all this winning may not be something new to the St. John Bosco cross-country program it sure is not something that always comes easy. The Braves were severely challenged by a vastly improved Servite team that some said would dethrone the champions. In the end though the Braves pulled off a narrow victory, 26-30 (low score wins) to keep their hopes of 11 straight titles alive. The Braves now hope to improve enough to hold off Servite once again in November's Serra league finals, where if Servite comes out on top, they would be the out right champions.

Leading the way once again for the Braves were seniors Kevin Urak, Luis Perez and Randy Skillens. Urak paced his team with a 3rd overall finish while Perez and Skillens provided strong back up to place in the top 10. Senior Matthew Pruter and sophomore Victor Bonilla ran strong enough races to displace most team's 3rd, 4th and 5th runners, while senior Russell Gonzalez also ran well enough to help gap other team's scorers. Rounding out the top seven was senior Bradley Bonilla.

On the freshman-sophomore level the younger Braves also came away from the meet with a perfect 4-0 record. Sophomore Timothy Barreto paced his team with a first place overall finish. He was backed up by sophomores Justin Martinez, Raymond Cruces, freshman - David Boese, and sophomore Nick Rojes. Since the inception of the Serra League the frosh/soph Braves have not lost a league title and have produced the frosh/soph individual league champion since 2001.

The Junior Varsity squad was paced my junior Mile Alvarez and finished with a record of 2-2 in league.
