BELL GARDENS INVITATIONAL::
Underclassmen Race Tough at Bell Gardens
An early morning start at the Bell Gardens Invitational provided
the Braves with some cold conditions. As the day progressed
so did the success of the Braves team. The "by grade" invitational
was run on a flat, dirt path course at Legg Lake Park -- fast times
are expected but never guaranteed. Many Braves overall earned
medals, but it was the lower classmen that ran tough, with 11 out
of the 16 that ran setting personal records for their season.
Ruben Flores led the way with a top 10 finish in the Sophomore
race and was the only Brave to crack 17 on this day, running a
16:53. A nice surprise for the Braves came in the Freshmen
race which saw Randy Skillens race to a 1st place victory after
unleashing a kick of determination with 200 yards to go finishing
the course in a time of 17:14. This day was also a lesson
for many Braves who learned that it's themselves as runners that
will produce fast times and not a "flat course."
Braves that set a personal record include:
Matthew Estrella, Ephraim Barrios, John Sandoval, Ryan Urak, Luis
Uribe, Luke Dihn, Carlos Back, Carlos Flores, Roland Cruces, Randy
Skillens, Kevin Urak. |
