CLOVIS INVITATIONAL::
Goals Met In Fresno
The St. John Bosco Cross Country team made a trip north to Fresno's
Woodward Park, the site of the California State Cross Country Meet.
There they would hope to test their skills against some of the
best teams in the state. This years Clovis Invitational promised
to be another preview of what may be come November as many of the
Southern Section's, Central Section's and Northern Section's best
teams came to run. Initially slated to run in the Large School
Varsity race, the Braves were thrown in with the big guns in the "Championship
Race" because of their recent tradition and current rankings.
A top ten team finish is what Coach Tim McIntosh hoped for his
young yet talented team. Leading the way in this crowed 201 person
race was a 21st place showing by Senior Anthony Martinez. His time
of 16:09 was a 13 second improvement over last years time and just
missed the Bosco course record by 5 seconds. Another strong performance
by Sophomore Randy Skillens also helped the Braves in their quest
for top ten. His time of 16:29 was just 16 seconds of the Bosco
sophomore course record. Junior Luis Uribe also contributed greatly,
finishing in a time of 16:35, just 13 seconds off the Junior record.
These three individuals helped their team meet there goals as the
Braves finished in 10th place. McIntosh hopes this race is a preview
of better things to come as the Braves will be training to earn
a trip back here in November for the California State meet.
In the Junior Varsity race, Junior Mahesh Gandhi raced to a 2nd
place finish in 16:59 to help his team finish in 3rd place overall. |
