Braves Run 80:09 -
St. John Bosco Captures Elusive Individual Sweepstakes Crown
The Braves are a year late in achieving their potential success,
but they say better late then never. It was the 2001 Cross Country
team that for various reasons ended their season a bit short, it
is this 2002 team that wasn't expected to "do as well." Surprise
once again to the world of high school Cross Country. In what is
becoming a common occurrence for the 2002 Braves, they once again
surprised many to run the 3rd fastest team time in Bosco history
in winning the individual sweepstakes portion of the Mt. Sac Invitational.
Bosco was the 2nd fastest Division II team on the day finishing
only behind Rubidoux High School. Bosco's 110 points in their race
sealed the win. Leading the way once again was seasoned veteran
Senior Tony Martinez who had an admittedly "off day" but
still managed a Mt. SAC PR of 15:41. The next scoring runners finished
almost in a perfect cluster. Sophomore Randy Skillens ran to a
huge Mt. SAC PR of 15:51, missing the sophomore record by 11 seconds.
Next were Juniors Luis Uribe (16:04), Ephraim Barrios (16:13),
and Mahesh Gandhi (16:19) - all three runners also had breakthrough
Mt. SAC races. Rounding out the Varsity runners was Senior Darby
O'neill who also dropped his Mt. SAC PR to a time of 16:38. The
boys now have their sites set on the Serra League finals in which
they hope to bring their "Streak" of league titles to
nine in a row.
In other days news, Senior Eddie Diaz (16:50) and Junior Ruben
Flores Kevin Urak (16:51) led his Sophomore team to a 2nd place
finish.
Great Job Braves! |
