SERRA LEAGUE CLUSTER::
Braves Victorious
"The Streak" is
intact as Bosco takes first successful step towards #9 The St. John Bosco Cross Country team wasn't supposed to be this
good. Not after graduating three core seniors. Not after only returning
two of 2001's top seven runners. Call them Blessed, call them lucky
- call them what you will, but make sure you include the words
talented and well coached. After an almost complete face lift,
the 2002 version Braves are proving that they can match the success
of their predecessors. In the inaugural Serra League cluster meet
the Braves showed the rest of the league that they were going to
have to wrestle their streak away from them. Scored as double dual
meets the Braves finished off the day with a perfect 4-0 record.
The biggest challenge to the Braves was league rival Santa Margarita
who only fell by a mere four points, 26-30. Mater Dei was defeated
by a score of 22-38, Servite by a score of 20-42, and Bishop Amat
fell 15-49.
Leading the Braves was returning All Serra League runner Senior
Anthony Martinez who placed third overall. The next five running
Braves were all new to the Varsity ranks in 2002. Sophomore Randy
Skillens finished an impressive 5th overall, while Junior Luis
Uribe, Freshman Jonathon Batres, Senior Eddie Diaz, and Senior
Darby O'neill all raced to new Central Park PR's to secure the
Brave's victory.
In other days action Junior Ephraim Barrios raced to a victory
in the JV race as he finished in a time of 16:41, thus breaking
into the Brave's top 7. Both JV and Frosh/Soph teams claimed victory. |
