ROADRUNNER CLASSIC::
Roadrunner
Record
Braves, Best Team Ever At Roadrunner Classic The Brave cross country team are full of surprises this week.
After a dominating race during their Serra League cluster meet
no one really expected a very special race from the Braves just
two short days later. Thanks to the Braves' focus and hard racing
most people were proved wrong. The Braves overwhelmed the competition
to sweep the first four spots in the varsity race. They finished
with a winning score of 17 points and a meet, course and school
record of 79:37 for their five scoring runners. The Braves toped
the previous best team time of 80:15 set by the 2000 team.
Flip-flopping once again were senior Luis Uribe and junior Randy
Skillens. Uribe lead the entire race and finished in the top spot
with a time of 15:43. Skillens was just behind in 15:45. Running
in the third position for his team was once again Ephraim Barrios
who finished third overall with a time of 15:56. Junior Luis Perez
once again had a huge race for his team to record another PR and
a fourth overall finish of 15:56. Gone our his freshman days of
running 6:00 minute miles - this kid is for real! Racing strong
in the fifth runner position was junior Kevin Urak who's time of
16:19 and 12th overall finish secured the team record and win (note:
Urak finished in 12th but was awarded the 9 points because the
runners in front of him were scored in the small schools division).
Rounding out the top seven were senior Jon Sandoval and junior
Matt Pruter. Sandoval lowered his PR once again to finish 16th
overall with a time of 16:33. Pruter ran an improved race from
just two days prior as he finished as 24th overall in a time of
16:50.
In lower level action the Braves were just as successful as they
captured 1st place in the Junior Varsity section and 3rd place
in the Freshman - Sophomore section. Leading the way for the JV
Braves were seniors Matt Estrella (1st place - 16:43), Mahesh Gandhi
(2nd place - 17:15) and junior Russell Gonzalez (4th place - 17:53).
Freshman Luis Toapanta finished in 18:06 to pace the Frosh/Soph
Braves. |
