Braves Top Team At Challenging Invitational
In their second week of racing the Braves took on a challenging
course and some challenging teams. The outcome favored the Braves
as they paced the way to place first. It wasn't a dominating win,
but the Braves ran solid and didn't do anything to diminish their
status as one of the area's top teams. Teams posing solid challenges
to the Braves were strong Orange Country programs Cypress, and
Valencia, a vastly improved Lakewood team, and always steady Glendora.
It was the Braves depth however that proved to be their strong
point as a 42 second spread for their top five earned them a 81:25
team time and the victory.
Leading the way for the Braves for the second week in a row was
senior Luis Uribe. His time of 15:58 was an improvement over last
years. Uribe was followed by junior Randy Skillens who controlled
his sophomore race a little bit before the first mile and seemingly
cruised to victory with a time of 16:02. Ever consistent senior
Ephraim Barrios placed as the Braves third man in a time of 16:08.
Juniors Kevin Urak and Luis Perez once again rounded out the top
five as they raced solid and finished with times of 16:37 and 16:40
respectively on a course that does not like to yield fast times.
Also making progress in their second week of racing was senior
Jon Sandoval, who matched his personal best time of 16:51 and earned
himself the number six spot on the Braves squad
