There
was some speculation on the part of some southland teams that this
year's St. John Bosco cross-country team may not have the tools
to make a difference in the CIF-Southern Section this year. While
the Braves haven't proved anything of importance yet, they at least
showed that you can't count them out after they've been knocked
down.
Refusing to let their season pass by the way
side it was the seniors who led their squad to a team victory
at this year's Sunny Hills invitational. It was the second time
in as many years that the Braves won this meet. Despite losing
one of their top runners due to injury the Braves were only 11
seconds off the team time they recorded last year 81:25 (in 2003)
to 81:36.
The term "senior dominated team" was
literal this time out for the Braves as their top 5 scorers were
all seniors. Kevin Urak led the way once again for his team as
he set the fastest time of the day by any runner en-route to
a time of 15:50. Rounding out the senior scorers were Randy Skillens,
Luis Perez, Matthew Pruter and Russell Gonzalez - who set a huge
personal record to become a force on this year's squad.
Rounding out the top 7 for the Braves were sophomores
Victor Bonilla (16:52 - runner up sophomore boys race) and Justin
Martinez (17:08).
Leading the freshman Braves were David Boese
(17:54) and Brett McCoy (18:52).
