- Brett McCoy (Sophomore): His gutsy performance at the Fastback earned himself a fourth place finish among a very solid field. Showed the heart and desire in the race as he does in his training. Will be one of the Braves "biggest" surprises this year.
- Alex Theriot (Sophomore): Came out in his first cross-country race ever to surprise his coaches and team mates with a solid performance. His race showed he is capable of more with his training which in turn could take him to the next level.
Brave of the Week
Week 1, Fastback Shootout Invitational
Week 2, Sunny Hills Invitational
- John Woscek (Senior): Improved over 3 minutes to run a personal best time at Sunny Hills. Uncommon for a runner to improve that much over their junior and senior year's Woscek's hard work and determination to be the best he can be is really starting to show and pay off for himself.
- Tim Barreto (Junior): Ran a smart race to finish 3rd in the junior race at Sunny Hills. Proved that he is able to run with the more elite runners not only on his own team, but in the area as well. His new found passion for the sport should prove to be a big boost to his team this year.
Week 3, Serra League Preview Meet
- Victor Bonilla (Junior): Lead his team in the Serra League preview meet and placed second individually. His time of 15:58 places his 3rd on the all time Central Park "junior" list and 10th in the all time top 20. Bonilla has come a long way since his days as a 19 minute freshman. Expect much more to come.
- Sean Johnson (Sophomore): His talent was displayed at the Serra League preview meet. New to the sport, Sean hadn't put in the necessary training to compete at a high level. His last couple of weeks though had been a step up and that showed at the preview meet as he took fifth place in only his 3rd race ever to set a nice PR of 18:24. Sean will be expected to help frosh/soph improve upon their 3rd place league finish and possibly step into a varsity role with more training under his belt.
Week 4, Warren Stauffer Invitational
- Jonathan Wilcox (Junior): Wilcox is starting his first ever season of cross-country after dabbling in football for two season prior. Unsure of his ability in the sport he is slowly learning the ropes about what it takes to become an elite runner. Johnny has been thrown into a varsity situation and responded nicely as he strives to better himself and cope with being counted on as part of a tradition rich program. His breakthrough race at the Warren invite shows he is on his way toward meeting his potential.
- Alex Theriot (Sophomore): Alex is the first double BOTW runner this season. Each week he challenges himself to become as good a runner as his coaches believes he is. The rate at which he is improving in his first season of cross-country could prove invaluable by the time he is an experienced senior.
- Chris Saldana (Junior): Chris continues to amaze coaches and parents alike with his determination to be the best he can be. Realizes that in order to improve one must put in the appropriate training - Chris does this daily. His near seven minute improvement at the Warren Invite from 04 to 05 shows that no matter what level runner you are if you do what is necessary in your training you will see unlimited results.
Week 5, Charger Invitational/Clovis Invitational
- Michael Fletcher (Freshman): Flashed signs of his talent on a tough course, placing among the top 15 in a tough field. Fletcher has posted solid performances all season despite not putting in summer training. With some growth and experience he can become a force on the Braves squad in the years to come.
- Valente Zavala (Sophomore): A former tight-end on the freshman football team Zavala decided to try his had at cross-country this season. After posting 24 and 22 minute marks in his first two races he dropped his time by almost two minutes in the next two races. Yet another athlete that has shown flashes of talent that can become a force if the appropriate work is put in.
Week 6, Bell Gardens Invitational
- Brett McCoy (Sophomore): Earning this title for the second time this season McCoy is showing each time he races why he is going to play a pivotal role if the Braves are to achieve the type of success they hope come championship race time. Ran in the mid 18's on a faster Bell Gardens course last season then impressed with a solid personal best to finish in 16:21. A very solid 5th man that was only 38 seconds behind the #1 man. A telling statistic that could help the team immensely in bigger races.
- Jay Barcelon (Sophomore): A first year cross-country athlete that has steadily improved from the beginning of the season. Ran his best race of the season to score himself a personal best of 20:10. With continued hard work Barcelon will continue to improve.
Week 7, Mt. SAC Invitational
- Victor Bonilla (Junior): Turned in the 5th fastest time in school history, and was only 11 seconds off the junior school record in recording a strong 15:38 clocking at the challenging course. Proved that he is one of the top tier runners in his division after a couple of lack luster races at Clovis and Bell Gardens. Bonilla has really stepped up this season coming from an inconsistent 5th man in 2004 to a proven #1 man and leader this season.
- Justin Martinez (Junior): Improved 1 minute 2 seconds to place 22 on the all time Mt. SAC school list. Proved that he can run the "big" races and that his new attitude toward pushing himself in training is paying off huge.
Week 8, No Race Scheduled
Week 9, Serra League Finals
- Jonathan Batres (Senior): Finding the talent and strength with in himself, Batres challenged for the #1 man spot before being out kicked in the finals strides of the race. Still managed to place 4th in the race after not being in the top 10 at the cluster meet. His 15:42 places him 4th all time in school history. As Batres' 1st Brave of the Week award in his career this comes at a good time in the season heading into championship races.
- Juan Bustos (Sophomore): Ran 18:36 at finals after runner 19:33 at the cluster meet - a huge improvement for this first year runner. His hard work, dedication and heart paid off for him in the last and most important race of the season. Should gain more strength in track and field that will hopefully lead to a breakout junior cross-country season.
- Joel Gutierrez (Freshman): Ran 19:49 at the finals race after posting a time of 22:30 at the same course just five weeks prior. As a new runner Joel worked hard this season and saw major results in his last race. Another tough runner who could blossom in his sophomore campaign of cross-country.
- Oscar Gomez (Freshman): Posted a time of 19:46 at the finals race which is a huge improvement over his previous time at this course of 22:32. Another first year runner whose work ethic improved greatly over the course of the season. His natural ability should shine through in track before coming through with a strong 2006 cross-country season.
- Germain Hernandez (Freshman): 29:06 in his first race on this course - 20:57 at the same course in the finals race! The most improved runner at the meet, Germain seemed to understand what it takes to be a successful runner as the season progressed. Has everyone looking forward to what he can accomplish in his seasons to come.
