2005 Season Brings New Look
The
St. John Bosco cross-country team returns this season with hopes of capturing
it's 12th league title, advancing to the CIF-Southern Section final for
the 6th straight year and competing in the California State meet for the
fifth time in six seasons. From the years of 2000-2004 any of those goals
were valiant, but almost a given. This season the Braves seek these goals
as a completely reconstructed team.
The 2004-2005 school year saw the graduation of senior heavy roster for the Braves. Gone are 5 of the top 7 runners, and in their place will be inexperienced talent. Lead by junior Victor Bonilla - the lone contributing underclassmen in 2004 - this season's Braves will fight to find an identity all their own as they compete to keep the streaks of the teams before them alive.
Backing up Bonilla will be a contingent of juniors that hope to make their mark on the varsity ranks - Timothy Barreto, Justin Martinez, Raymond Cruces, Daniel Bacerra, and Nick Rojes are the junior names expected to help lead the way. Senior Michael Alvarez should also see varsity action in this his third and final year of high school cross-country.
This year should be plenty dramatic and although the Braves have history and tradition on their side, nothing in this sport is a given - only the team's hard work will detail and dictate if the tradition holds up this year!
