2005 Season Opens at Fastback Shootout!

The St. John Bosco cross-country team will test all of their hard work Saturday, September 10 at the Fastback Shootout on the Mt. SAC 2 mile course. The team has worked hard this summer to prepare for this season. They hope to make a statement, and are out to prove that they are capable of carrying on the tradition of teams of the past. A key ingredient this team will posses will be team cohesiveness as they all push each other everyday in practice in hopes of reaching their goals.

Junior Victor Bonilla comes into the season as the team leader. His "come out of no where" 2004 cross-country campaign was topped off by personal bests of 16:14, 16:26, and 16:45 at Central Park, Mt. SAC, and Woodward Park respectively. Perhaps even more impressive though was his eye popping 9:40, 3200m track performance. Bonilla will lead a core group of underclassmen and a senior. Tim Barreto has emerged as the team's #2 man entering the school year. His hard work, and change of attitude has propelled him to train and race close to Bonilla. Brett McCoy, Justin Martinez, Michael Alvarez, and Jonathan Wilcox will make up the varsity team to start the season. Their inexperience will be overshadowed by their enthusiasm to excel and improve. John Woscek and Jonathan Batres are to seniors that have been coming on strong as of late and hope to round out the top 7.

The outlook looks positive for this year's squad as the Braves conclude the "best summer in team history" and head into this season ready for all challenges.
