COVINA INVITATIONAL
Freshman Matt Hamlett has a breakthrough Day!
The
Braves had a solid day at this year's Covina Invitational. They overcame
some wet, early conditions to place third behind two out of state teams.
Scoring points for their team were the 4x100 meter relay of Frank Islas, Dwayne Giles, Steven Caudillo and Randolph White who took second place overall, Victor Bonilla's runner up finish in the 3200 meters and 4th place in the 1600 meters, Giles's 3rd place finish in the 200 meters, Domingo Castellanos' earning points in the shot put as well as the discus along with Allister Larion and Chris De La Cruz in the pole vault.
Not to be out done by his varsity contemporaries freshman Matt Hamlett had a breakthrough day in the 400 and 200 meters after struggling through his last two meets. In the 400 meters the young Brave powered through a commanding win finishing in a time of 53.79 - a near two second personal best. Hamlett again used a powerful finish in the 200 meters as he posted another victory and personal best after finishing in 24.59.
Sophomore Brett McCoy also set a personal best in the 3200 meters as he clocked a six second improvement to finish in 10:16. 2.
