Braves Compete At Gahr Relays

domingoThe St. John Bosco track and field team had a fair day, in this their first time competing at the Gahr relays. While a few notable performances stood out, as a team the Braves did nothing to strike fear in their Serra league opponents. The throws crew continues to be a bright spot for the team while the sprint squad must step up their game if they are to be of service to their team this year.

In a young season a young squad such as this year's can only go up from here, but they will also learn quickly that they need to grow fast as a team as league is only two weeks away.

Senior Domingo Castellanos had perhaps the most impressive performance of the day as he placed himself 6th on the all time performance list with a 50 foot 2.5 inch toss in the shot put. His huge improvement comes only three days after a nice, but modest toss at Wednesday's triangular meet.

A trio of sophomore field eventers had a strong day to give hope to their team for this season and beyond. Travion Smith did not have the most successful meet of his career, but he did manage to set a personal best mark in the triple jump. His mark of 41 feet 9.5 inches places him 10th all time in the school. His counter part Tim Pardo set a meet record in the frosh/soph triple jump with a personal best leap of 38-10, while teammate Chris De La Cruz set a frosh/soph meet record in the pole vault with a jump of 12 feet 6 inches. Sophomore Glen Banks also improved his marks to give the Braves 4 solid underclassmen to rely on in years to come.

dmrPerhaps the most exciting performance of the day came from the varsity distance medley relay team as they ran to a time of 10:53.85. This was an exciting race from the gun when as many as 5 teams took the lead. In the end it was the all junior group of Tim Barreto, Branson Nicholson, Justin Martinez and Victor Bonilla who claimed victory in a meet record time.

The Braves will be in action again this Thursday, March 9 at Warren High School as they take on Warren and Marina High School in a Triangular meet starting at 3:00PM.
