SERRA LEAGUE PRELIMINARIES
Bonilla & Giles lead on Track qualifiers, Beal-Ampah soars!
Although the St. John Bosco track and field team had no leading qualifiers
on the track at this season's Serra league preliminaries they still advanced
enough athletes into the final to be a threat to win the league title out
right next Friday. Junior Dwayne Giles was the second leading qualifier in
the 400 and 200 meters while junior Victor Bonilla is seeded second in both
the 1600 and 3200 meters respectively. Sophomores Roland Simon and Travion
Smith are the 2nd and 3rd seeded qualifiers in the 110 meter hurdles, while
Smith and sophomore teammate Tim Pardo are the top two seeds in the triple
jump. More points are expected from Smith in the long and high jumps as well.
Other athletes the Braves will count on for valuable points are seniors Domingo Castellanos and Allister Larion who are the top seeds in the shot put and discus, sophomore Chris De La Cruz in the pole vault, senior Randolph white in the 100 meters and the 4x100 meter relay team of White, Giles, and seniors Frank Islas and Steven Caudillo.
Lower level action saw freshman Miles Beal-Ampah soar to a huge personal best in the high jump as he took the "frosh/soph' league crown with a leap of 5 feet 10 inches. The Braves would sweep that event with a 1-3 finish. Junior Glenn Graham would lead another trio of Braves in the pole vault as the Braves swept there with Graham claiming the league JV title with a clearance of 10 feet 6 iniches. Sophomore Glen Banks captured the "frosh/soph" triple jump title, while junior Joey Castillo is the top qualifier in the junior varsity 100 meters and looks to capture that title at league finals this Friday, May 5!
