Braves Earn Split In Frigid Tri-Meet
One
thing is certain about the Braves triangular meet. They did not do anything
to convince their opponents that they are a power house team. They did however
show that they can spread their points around to keep a meet close, even
if it seems otherwise.
In what looked to be a blow-out loss to Warren and Marina high schools turned out to be a split - the Braves toppled Warren by a hefty margin while only losing to Marina by four points. The Braves can thank the field event squad for doing their part in keeping their team competitive. Though fighting through various ailments on the track - the Braves need to step up ten fold if they are to compete in league which starts next Thursday against rival Santa Margarita.
Much of the success on the field event side can be attributed to sophomore Travion Smith who scored 20 points in the meet in winning the long, high and triple jumps and claiming victory in the 300 intermediate hurdles. Smith's triple jump mark of 42-4.5 landed him tied for the fifth spot on the schools all time list. Other field event marks of note came in the discus where senior Allister Larion missed the school record by 2 inches in hitting a mark of 153 feet 6 inches, and senior Domingo Castellanos winning the shot put with a throw of 47 feet 11.5 inches.
Notable marks for the Braves on the track were produced by senior Craig Williams in the 100 meters (10.8), junior Dwayne Giles in the 400 meters (51.7), and freshman Will Shamburger in t he frosh/soph 100 meters (11.4).
