Braves Start to Roll as Season Approaches

The St. John Bosco Track and Field team ended their Gahr All Comer preseason meets in strong fashion, minus one set back. The day fueled confidence as many runners came away with PR's. However, in what maybe the days biggest news Junior Joe Cowan pulled up in the 4x100 relay with what Doctors diagnosed as a "possible slight pull". Joe will look to be back in a few weeks to resume the fine season he started. Despite the injury to one of the teams best athletes the Braves took to the track (and field) in a display of an all around strong team effort. What follows is a recap of the day's happenings:

100M: The highlight here was Senior Garrett Schott's hand time PR of 10.89. It was the first time Schott clocked under 11.0. He reports that had he had a "better start" his time would've dipped even lower. Schott will likely get another shot at the 100m at one of our many Saturday Invitationals. Another nice surprise in this race saw Junior football sensation Derrick Williams come out and clock a formidable 11.3. With work he could be a force in the Serra League.

200M: Josh Bradford posted the fastest Brave time of the day with a 23.2 clocking. Easing up ten meters before the finish line however cost him some valuable time. Bradford proclaimed to have got confused as to which line was the finish. He no doubt will not make that mistake again and will be a force in the 200M in months to come.

400M: This race produced a heat winner in Archie Aragon . Running in lane 9, Archie led this race from start to finish. It could be a sign of nice things to come for this super hard worker.

800M: Albert Flores took advantage of his preseason training to clock a 2:08 time here. With only a few weeks training under his belt Albert is sure to drop his time in weeks to come.

1600M: One of the best races of the day saw Randy Hills run up front only to finish fourth in a PR time of 4:28. Hills aggressive style pulled the field through and made for a spectacular race.

3200M: Another race featuring Hills played out nicely. Hills battled Downey's Jose Casillas the whole race only to be out kicked at the end to finish in a pre-season best 9:54.

4x100M Relay: The "bane" race of the day saw the Braves run fantastic until tragedy struck. Schott and Bradford executed their legs to perfection, while Derrick Williams proved he can run the turn by putting the team in 2nd. At the hand off Cowan pulled in to first place then pulled his hamstring. The Braves finished with 44.6 in what would've been a faster time had the injury not occurred.

Pole Vault: Jorge De La Cruz and Brian Garcia both cleared 13'0 and 11'0 respectively showing that they will be a potent duo come League action
