Braves Down Mater Dei

The Braves Track and Field team moved one win closer to a league title on Wednesday. Braves stadium played host to a duel meet that welcomed the visiting Mater Dei Monarchs. A focused Bosco team was ready for anything that Mater Dei threw at them. Anticipating the win, the Braves showed great heart by putting 100% effort into every event. What resulted was a 100-38 victory for the Braves! Next up for Bosco will be the duel meet versus Santa Margarita. This meet will decide who is the dominant team in the Serra League.

440yd Relay: Matt Young had a tremendous leg here putting his team out in front early. Joe Cowan sustained that lead, while handing off to a powerful running Josh Bradford. Garrett Schott took a fine pass from Bradford and brought his team victory. The Braves finishing time of 43.9 matches the fastest time by a Brave team at Braves stadium. The last team to run as fast set the school record of 42.38 in 1997.

One Mile: Chris Zepeda of Mater Dei took the early lead here with three Braves trailing. By the second lap it was apparent that the Braves were not going to give and eventually took the lead over. Randy Hills, Anthony Martinez, and Daniel Estrella finished one through three respectively to lead a Brave sweep.

120yd Hurdles: John Kim of Mater Dei took this race in what would be Mater Dei's only track victory.

440yd Dash: The finishing times here were quoted as being "the fastest times ever run on this track by Bosco runners." Those accolades go to Braves Joe Cowan and Josh Bradford who finished one-two respectively. They were clocked at 50.7 and 51.1. Historically running a 440 at Braves Stadium converts anywhere from 1.5 to 2 seconds faster on an all weather surface - Stay tuned!

100 Meters: Garrett Schott ran well enough to gain a victory here.

880yds: Randy Hills and Osvaldo Lopez went one and three to finish strong for their team; earning six more points.

330yd Hurdles: Joe Cowan overcame "sub par" hurdle technique to capture his third victory here. In a pleasant surprise Archie Aragon and Robert Zamboni PR'd substantially to take the number two and three spots and round out another Braves sweep.

220yd Dash: Garrett Schott and Josh Bradford once again showed their dominance at this distance finishing one-two for their team.

Two Mile: Tony Martinez kept his pace nicely as he finished in 10:05 for his team. Daniel Estrella finished a distant third.

Mile Relay: Despite Mater Dei being disqualified from the race, the Braves ran tough. Running a 3:31 at Braves Stadium all alone the team of Bradford, Schott, Young and Cowan proved to themselves that they can run with the top talent in the Southland when necessary.

Field Events:  Ian Connell won the Discus...Kevin Cape won the Triple Jump...Jorge De La Cruz cleared 13' 6" in the Pole Vault to win his event after having to travel to Mater Dei's campus because of insufficient runways at Braves Stadium - De la Cruz earned himself the unofficial title of "Brave Athlete of the Meet"
