Serra League Prelims
The St. John Bosco Braves will compete in the Serra League
Finals on Friday May 9. Events begin at 5PM at Santa Margarita
HS. Top qualifiers into the meet will compete for a berth into
the CIF Preliminaries. Bosco will battle Santa Margarita for
a share of the Serra League title.
Top entries in Friday's meet include senior Joe Cowan. Cowan
is the leading qualifier in the 300 Hurdles, the second leading
qualifier in the 400m and the fourth best qualifier in the
200m. With a PR time of 37.83 (third best in state) Cowan is
the favorite to win the league title and with the third best
mark in the sate he's expected to challenge for the 400m league
title. Senior Roy Alugbue is the top qualifier in the 100m
and will challenge for a spot to CIF in the 200m. Alugbue is
the defending Serra League champion in the high jump and is
expected to challenge for that honor again. Both he and Cowan
will be vital parts of the 4x100 relay. Running in his first
varsity league track finals will be junior Luis Uribe who shocked
the league in his preliminary heat beating the defending league
champion en-route to a huge PR of 1:57.61.
Other qualifiers expected to advance into CIF will be senior
Anthony Martinez in the 1600m, junior Mahesh Gandhi in the
400m, senior Kevin Roberts in the pole vault and senior Troy
Swan in the jumps. |
