Solid Day For Braves at Covina Invite
Overcast weather and scattered showers could not dim out the
bright spots recorded for the Braves Track and Field team at
this year's Covina Invitational.
The distances saw junior Randy Skillens regain some of the
form that earned him an all CIF selection in cross country.
In his first race, the 1600 meters, he would earn over a five
second PR to finish in a time of 4:25.99. In the 3200 meters
it would be more strong running as he posted a time of 9:30.49
to earn himself a 20 second PR and a place in all time top
ten, squeezing in the sixth spot overall. Also in the 3200
meters junior Luis Perez would earn himself a 22 second PR
racing to a time of 9:33 good enough for eighth on the all
time list. Freshman Victor Bonilla would have a strong day
as he set personal bests in both the 1600 meters (4:51.1) and
3200 meters (10:33.1).
The 800 meter duo of Luis Uribe and Mahesh Gandhi continue
to run well as they finished 2nd and 3rd in 1:56.22 and 1:58.01
respectively. Gandhi's time places him sixth all time on the
school list.
Other meet highlights saw junior Daniel Jenkins set a personal
best in the triple jump at 41 feet, 3/4 of an inch, sophomore
Domingo Castellanos triple jump 38 feet, 8 inches and shot
put 40 feet, 1 inch, and the 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore
Steven Caudillo and seniors Luis Uribe, Carl Van Ness and Mahesh
Gandhi race to a 3:29.55 effort. |
