Sprinters Pace Braves in Victory
The young varsity sprinters of St. John Bosco ran well enough
to help lead their team to a victory over a very strong team
in Edison High School. The young crew started the day with
a victory in the 400 meter relay. The foursome of sophomores
Craig Williams and Brandon Johnson and juniors Kenny Brown
and Matt Davis claimed victory, racing to a time of 44.2. Those
four would do damange all day in the sprint events. Most notably
was the sweep of the 200 meters where the Braves took the first
three spots.
The highlight of the day came in the 1600 meter relay where
Johnson teamed up with seniors Mahesh Gandhi, Luis Urbe and
Ryan Urak. Gandhi split a 51.6 and handed off to Uribe who
ran 52.2 to bring his team to first. Urak kept the team close
with his 53.5 split and handed it to Johnson. The Edison anchor
came out strong but could not hold off Bosco's surging sophomore.
Johnson split a 49.5 and lead his team once again to victory.
Other notable performances for the Braves came in the triple
jump where senior Matt Kauffman leaped out to 41 feet 4 inches
to claim the win. Uribe would post a seasonal best time in
the 1600 meters of 4:25.23. Junior Kevin Urak would post a
victory in the 3200 meters after running another strong time
- 9:51.8.
The Varsity Braves took the team victory over Edison, 80-56.
On the freshman sophomore level, sophomore thrower Alistar
Larian led his team in the shot put (40 feet 3 inches) and
discus (121 feet) in a team losing effort as the Frosh/Soph
feel to Edison 48-88. While the Junior Varsity claimed the
