Braves Overwhelm Mater Dei

It was not the most graceful of victories, but the St. John Bosco Track and Field team did what it needed to do in order to keep their undefeated streak against host Mater Dei alive. While the Monarchs may have had "upset" on their mind, on this - their inaugural track meet on their newly installed, all weather track, the Braves' overall depth kept the red clad athletes at bay.

The Braves won the 100 through the 3200 meters. They swept the 800, and 1600 meters, as well as the shot put. Highlights for the day included senior Luis Uribe, the only varsity athlete to win two events. His range showed through during this meet as he claimed victories in the 400 (51.2) and 3200 meters (9:54.2).

Two major breakthroughs for the Braves on the varsity level included another personal record for junior Daniel Jenkins in the long jump. He jumped to a personal best of 19 feet 11.25 inches to take second place. His jump was a 1 foot 2 inch improvement over his previous best. The second breakthrough for the Braves came in the 200 meters where junior Kenny Brown may have found his niche as he set a personal best time of 22.8 seconds to capture the victory.

On the frosh/soph level sophomore Domingo Castellanos once again showed his athleticism as he scored in four events. Out of those four events he would go on to set personal records in the shot put (46-9), discus (102-0), and triple jump (38-7); his long jump was at 18 feet 5 inches for the day.

Despite varsity's 90-45 defeat of the Monarchs, the lower levels could not put it together as well as frosh/soph fell 63-73, while junior varsity fell 49-51.
