Millikan Distance Carnival
Senior Duo Post Strong Doubles

The Braves had a very successful invitational opener despite fielding a young team this year. However, it was the senior duo of Luis Uribe and Mahesh Gandhi that posted the team's best doubles. Uribe won the 1600 meter race, virtually leading from start to finish and overcoming a pedestrian first lap to finish in 4:26.8. Uribe would come back in the 800 meter to face teammate Gandhi. It was Gandhi once again unleashing a strong move into the 3rd turn to take command of the race. Both Braves finished 1st and 2nd in the race as Gandhi nipped Uribe 1:58.5 - 1:58.6 respectively. Prior to his 800 meter victory Gandhi finished 6th in a very strong 400 meter field finishing with a time of 51.6.

A host of other younger Braves made strong showings for their team. Sophomore Brandon Johnson proved once again that he isn't anyone to overlook as he took 4th in the Varsity 400 meter race to run to a sophomore school record time of 50.9. The Distance trio of junior Kevin Urak sophomore Jon Batres and junior Luis Perez once again ran strong 3200 meter races finishing 2nd, 3rd and 4th overall while clocking personal best times of 9:48, 9:51 and 9:54 respectively.

Freshman Dwayne Giles ran to an impressive 55.0 second 400 meter time in finishing 3rd in his heat, while sophomore Vincent Herrera moved up to a longer race and posted a time of 2:15 in the 800 meters. Both runners are first year track athletes and could make big contributions to their team this season.
