Serra League Prelims

The Braves Track and Field team took one step closer at this year's Serra League Prelims to capturing their second championship win in a row. As was the case last year, the Braves come into the meet with a 3-1 league record. If, like last year, the Braves can win the Serra League Finals meet the Braves will share the League Championship with Santa Margarita.

Here is a list of top qualifiers that are in scoring position for their team after League Preliminaries - Top 5 finishers score in league:

100 meters: Craig WIlliams 3rd qualifier
200 meters: Kenneth Brown, Craig WIlliams - 3rd and 4th qualifiers
400 meters: Mahesh Gandhi, Steven Caudillo - 1st and 2nd qualifiers
800 meters: Luis Uribe, Mahesh Gandhi - Top 2 seeds
1600 meters: Luis Uribe, Kevin Urak - 1st and 4th qualifiers
3200 meters: Randy Skillens, Luis Perez, Kevin Urak, Jon Batres - top 4 qualifiers
100 and 300 meter hurdles: Johnny Hoover - 5th qualifier

Field events are all finals. Those expected to score are Matt Kaufman and Daniel Jenkins in the jumps, and Adrian Cue, Nick Enriquez and Jasen DePasquale in the Throws.

Junior Matthew Pruter was the top Junior Varsity qualifier as he made it through to the 1600 meter final and captured the junior varsity league title in a personal best time of 10:21.26.

On the Freshman/Sophomore level the young Brave athletes made a very impressive showing. The top qualifier was freshman Dwayne Giles who is the #1 seed in both the 200 (24.05) and 400 (53.88) meters. Other top qualifiers included Joseph Easter in the 100 meters, Albert Velasquez and Branson Nicholson in the 400 meters, Victor Bonilla and Justin Martinez in the 1600 meters, and Matt Warner in the 300 meter hurdles.

Sophomore Allistar Larien captured the F/S discus title with a throw of 134-11 which places him 4th on the all time list. Freshman Victor Bonilla captured the F/S 3200 meter league crow with a time of 10:27.38. Sophomore Domingo Catellanos captured four all-league medals as he was 2nd in the Shot Put, and Discus, 3rd in the triple jump and 4th in the long jump.

The Braves will compete for the League Meet Championship and a share of the league title this Friday, May 7 at Santa Margarita High School.
