BRAVES SNEAK PAST FOUNTAIN VALLEy
In
what seemed to be a commanding tri-meet victory, the Braves
were lucky to find themselves victorious after all the points
were calculated. Thanks strongly in part to the teams on track
efforts the Braves were able to pull out a five point victory
over an always strong Fountain Valley team.
Leading the Braves to the win were the hurdling
efforts of senior Emiliano Uranga and the sprinting efforts
of senior Kenneth Brown and junior Steven Caudillo.
Uranga set two personal records enroute to
a 2nd place finish in the 110 hurdles and a first place finish
in the 300 hurdles with a time of 41.2. Brown had a strong
showing in the 100 meters taking third and stepped it up to
another level in the 200 meters running to a winning time of
22.8. Caudillo would claim victory in the 400 meters while
also teaming with Brown in the victorious 4x100 relay, and
again with Brown and Uranga in the victorious 4x400 meter relay.
Other
notable performances for the Braves on the track were senior
Matthew Davis posting a time of 11.1 in the 100 meters to take
second place, and senior Luis Perez and sophomore Victor Bonilla
posting times of 4:39.0 and 4:40.8 respectively in the 1600
meters.
Perhaps the most eye opening performance of
the day came on the Frosh/Soph, Junior Varsity level. Competing
in his very first official high school track meet, freshman
Travion Smith flew to a distance of 19 feet 1 inch in the long
jump to "wow" the spectators.
