BRAVES SHOW SIGNS OF LIFE AT
EAGLE INVITE
While
there was no glaring breakthroughs for the St. John Bosco Track
and Field team at this years Eagle Invitational, one could
see the rays of sunshine coming through the clouds as this
young team competes in order to find its identity. And although
there were rays of hope that this team could be a strong squad,
in the end it is obvious that the Braves have their work cut
out for them if they wish to compete with the elite teams of
the league - namely Santa Margarita High School.
Luckily for the Braves they will have had
a lot of time to test themselves before they have to face their
league rivals again at the end of April.
The day started strong as the 4x100 relays
all set seasonal best times for themselves highlighted by an
overall top finish for the frosh/soph boys team of Randall
Hook, Lawrence Doss, Joey Castillo and Tyree Toomer.
The
Brave of the meet would go to senior Emiliano Uranga who played
the role of iron man to perfection on this day, competing in
four events. The highlight of his day would come in the 300
intermediate hurdles as he gave preseason all-state selection
David Taff of Edison high school all he could handle. Uranga's
time of 41.11 is a personal record. Senior Daniel Jenkins had
a solid day in the horizontal jumps leaping to 19 feet even
in the long jump then capturing the top spot for the day in
the triple jump soaring out to 41 feet 11 1/2 inches.
Other notable personal records of note were
Junior Allistar Larian's discus throw of 130 feet 1.5 inches,
sophomore Victor Bonilla's 4:39.22 in the 1600 meters, and
the frosh/soph 4x400 relay team of Ruben Pereyra, Joey Castillo,
Justin Martinez and Tyree Toomer racing to a time of 3:45.88. |
