Warren Dual Meet

BRAVES OUT DUAL BEARS

After a sluggish start and some early meet mishaps the St. John Bosco track and field team were able to regroup themselves and defeat the Warren high school Bears by a hefty margin. It was a commanding win, but if the Braves hope to keep their undefeated streak alive against their opponent next week - Mater Dei - they will need to step up their game 100%.

Leading the way for the varsity Braves were senior captains Emiliano Uranga and Daniel Jenkins. Uranga once again put in over time as he competed in four events. In the hurdle races "E" was never challenged as he ran to wins of 16.2 in the 110 and 41.6 in the 300 hurdles respectively. Uranga would also go on to take the runner up spot in the triple jump and third place in the long jump with a personal best of 19 feet 4 inches. Jenkins would excel in his main events this day out winning both horizontal jumps. His best leap would come in the long jump as he set a personal best of 20 feet 4 inches.

The freshman-sophomore Braves won their meet as well. Highlights included freshman Travion Smith winning three events - the long, high and triple jumps. Smith would set a personal best of 38-5 in the triple jump to capture the win. Sophomore Joseph Easter would also capture 3 wins in the meet competing for the first time in the throws. Easter was able to throw well enough to capture the shot put and discus competition as well as the open 100 meters. Perhaps the highlight of the meet would come in the 4x400 relay as the frosh-soph team of Ruben Pereyra, Joey Castillo, Branson Nicholson and Tyree Toomer gave the varsity Bears all they could handle. Warren's varsity squad nipped the Braves frosh-soph team by less then a second as both teams clocked times of 3:42.

Next up for the Braves will be their first Serra League meet of the young season as they travel to Santa Ana to compete against Mater Dei. The meet on Thursday March 17 starts at 5:00PM
